Weston, FL - Cypress Bay turned on its power when it was needed most. The Lightning erased a two-run deficit with a home run in the fifth, then took the lead for good on a solo shot by Rafael Gonzalez in the sixth. The long ball was the start of a three-run inning that propelled Cypress Bay to a 6-3 win at home over Taravella in a Class 6A regional quarterfinal game Tuesday. The Lightning (22-6) will host Douglas in a regional semifinal game Friday. Gonzalez's home run went deep to right center field, the same place that Rudy Lavecchia sent his home run that tied the game. Lavecchia, who was 3 for 3 with two runs scored and three runs batted in, said the right-center field power alley is a good place to hit deep fly balls after dark. "The wind is very crucial in this situation," Lavecchia said. Lavecchia added to the Lightning lead in the sixth with a double that scored courtesy runner Steven Reznyk and scored on Iggy Sosa's single. Taravella (19-9) took the lead in the top of the fourth inning as Willie Medina tripled, then scored on a wild pitch with Cody Stiles at the plate. The Trojans added to the lead in fifth after Austin Watters led off the inning with a double, then scored on Austin Miranda's one-out single.
