What to look for in diabetic socks

By: Joe Norris

It is essential for diabetics to wear good diabetic socks. The industry is growing bigger and faster as more and more people have diabetes. This tremendous growth has caused many companies to product diabetic socks. Many are poorly made. A few are good. So how do we find the quality ones? Here are some things to look for.
1) Quality of Material - a mix of cotton and synthetics is excellent because it helps to minimize problems with foot infections when there are open sores.
2) Seams or Seamless - it is the preference of the diabetic. Diabetic socks with seams are a lot cheaper. However, some with neuropathy may find the seams agitating to the feet. These can be four times as expensive as those with seams.
3) Non-binding tops - this is a must. Having loose and Non-binding tops is really important to improve blood flow in the feet. However, the diabetes socks should not be too loose or else they will fall to the ankles.
4) Extra cushion on the soles - this helps to prevent the feet from abrasions with shoes. Also some that suffer from neuropathy will want to have diabetic socks with thicker soles.
5) Durability - the socks should handle many washing and drying.
6) Color - white diabetic socks are worn to signal foot sores.
In summary, comfort should be the most important factor in selecting diabetic socks.
