  • 5 Steps to Improve Staff Performance  By : Yvonne Bleakley
Lack of performance in a member of your staff can be attributed to one of two things. Either they have a competence problem, a commitment problem or both.

Competence is relatively easy to deal with. Once you have identified the issue, you can set about producing a training programme to help develop their skills, spend some time supervising them until they become competent, allow them to observe others, there are any number of ways that you can develop your staff with direction and support. Competence is learned over time as people develop their skills through experience.

Commitment, however, is a little bit more difficult to deal with as this is down to a combination of a person's confidence and motivation. When a job is new to us and we are in learning mode, we have little or no competence but oodles of commitment. We are enthusiastic and eager to learn and determined to perform at our best. As we start to learn the job, our competence increases but out commitment diminishes as we realise that maybe the job is more difficult than we thought, or maybe not as challenging or as interesting as we thought, or maybe we are just not being recognised for our efforts. Human nature is such that we start to think "well why bother?"

    Keep your people's commitment by:-

    1. Developing a learning and action plan that is right for them. Find out what their preferred learning styles are.
    2. Be aware of how quickly they learn and adapt. Don't allow them to become overwhelmed but just as importantly, keep their interest if they are a fast learner and they thrive by having responsibility.
    3. Focus on the positive by catching them doing something right and acknowledge them for it.
    4. If they do do something wrong while they are still inexperienced or they have a new task, then apologise for not making it clear to them. Yes, I do mean apologise! It is not their responsibility to understand you; it is your responsibility to be understood.
    5. Keep them in the loop. People like to know what is going on and are more likely to be committed if they understand the bigger picture.
  • How Do You Set Your Integrity Bar ?  By : Praveen534
An individual’s credibility is the result of two aspects – competency and character. Competency is simply what the individual does, their actions, and how they handle themselves. Character is who the individual is, the convictions they uphold, and the rules they live by. The success we achieve in our personal and business lives in many ways i

  • How Are Your Listening Skills?  By : Will Smith
Possessing better listening skills could be one of the most important attributes in both your personal and business world. Your ability to listen to others has a large impact upon your relationships with others, both in your personal and professional life. With all the job losses that have currently struck our country with a black eye, the citizen who are employed have found themselves willing to work another hour with no pay, give that extra smile and arrive ten minutes early to work rather than ten minutes late.

The statistics around the amount of information we listen to everyday are amazing. you would believe that you are an excellent viewers in music, internet, TV, etc Although, unfortunately, that's not so. It is speculated that we recall about 25-50% of what is heard every day.

A quarter to half of what is said you remember. It is best if the information you retain is the important information discussed in the conversation!

Obviously, improving your listening skills can be a great personal benefit. If you are a good listener then you would be more productive and it will also increase your capability to convince others around you. Conflict and misunderstandings can be avoided if you have great listening skills.

You may need to pay more attention to what the other person says and what they don't say.

Listening skills include using your eyes as well to study the body language of the individual talking. Body language is often a better indicator of understanding than actual spoken words. Listening skills include seeing what is being said as well as hearing the words. Employees have found it much easier to increase work productivity, rather than extend their break the extra 10 minutes to 15 minutes hearing the latest office gossip or explaining their side of the story. And you also can't let yourself lose your concentration on what the other individual is talking about. All such difficulties add on to a less listening and understanding.

You need to find out if the person you are explaining to understands, in order to become a better listener. Common techniques for showing that you have heard what is being said to you may be as simple as nodding your head or replying "uh huh".

Proper listening skills are made up of five components. This will assist you in being sure you are properly obtaining other people's messages.

    1) Focus on the content of the conversation.
2)Demonstrate that you are paying attention to the conversation.
    3) Provide feedback to the party who is talking.
Until it is fully expressed and understood, your should refrain from judging the message.
5-Use particular language and body expression when responding.

Your listening ability will be significantly better after taking note of these steps. Bettering your listening ability should be an objective. Successful listening skills contribute greater value to you personally and as a worker too.

  • Find Job Classifieds In Wilmington NC And Income Solutions  By : Garko Factor Financial Solutions
The commercial decline is hurting everybody - from the people on unemployment to people making six figures. Millions of people have just got made redundant, and unfortunately we are a long way from the end of this commercial mess. Thankfully, there are many corporations that are still hiring. Usually massive US-based retailers such as Sears, Wal-Mart, Kohl's, etc, are better equipped to handle tough times, and they take a depression as a great opportunity to gain some public respect, as well as some new, industrious employees.

These corporations are hiring, but obviously they get tons of applications, so to even be considered for job by a major retailer you have got to know what you do. Below, I have listed some general tips that may help when signing up for a major US-based retailer.

    1. Find companies accepting applications.

This should glaringly be the first step of any job search, and it is no different when applying for a retail job. You must select a few retailers that are now accepting applications. There are a number of sources, online and off, that can help you with this. The best strategies to discover who is hiring is to either go at once to the store itself, or search on the net using a well-liked job search site.

    2. Be as professional as possible.

This is another plain tip, but a vital one. With so many folk applying, these firms will have absolutely no patience for lazy folk. So, if you're looking to be hired, do all you can to appear and act pro. Show up on time, wear a suit, address everybody as "sir" or "madam", and attempt to get thru the interview with class.

    3. Be charismatic.

It is a real fact fact that more suave or charming folks are more likely to find employment than a dull, universal person, even if the later is better qualified. While this is not really fair, it is the truth, and it is a wonderful opportunity for you. There will almost there be somebody there who is more qualified for the job than you, but if you electrify the interviewers, you have a good shot and landing the job, with no regard for your qualifications.

    4. Prove your people-skills.

The above tips apply more to general job searching, while this one applies particularly to applying for a retail job. Retail is all about interactions with shoppers. Purchasers who feel ok with store workers are more likely to get a product than a consumer that feels clumsy or uncomfortable around employees. All of America's major retailers know this, and, they specifically look for someone with good "people skills". If you are applying for a retail position, be as friendly, useful, and charismatic as practical during your interview. Even if you are not very social routinely, act as if you are.

Remember, the application process is a bit competitive and you have to always put your best foot forward.
